前原冬樹は、プロボクサー、サラリーマンを経験した後32歳で東京藝術大学油画科に入学し、首席で卒業した異色の経歴をもつ作家である。
卒業制作は半立体ともいうべき作品だったが、その後は木彫に転じ以後、驚異的な一木造りの作品を発表してきた。
彫刻は全くの独学だが、油彩による着色技法には、油画科での経験がいかされているのであろう。

前原の作品には、時間の経過が濃密に封入されている。
打ち捨てられたものが醸し出す、昭和の残滓を美しいと思う眼とセンス。
彼ならではの観察眼と、類い稀な集中力によって、この驚くべき一木造りの木彫たちが産み出されているのである。

Sculpture artist Fuyuki Maehara, after gaining experience as a professional boxer and an office worker, began studying oil painting at Tokyo University of the Arts at age 32, graduated as the top student; he is a wood sculptor who possesses a unique career.

His graduation project could have been categorized as a semi-sculptural work, but after transitioning to wood sculpture later, he began to exhibit magnificent works made by carving from a single piece of wood.
Maehara is entirely self-taught in the art of wood sculpture, but his studies in oil painting are fully utilized in his techniques of coloring the works with oil paint.

Maehara's work captures the progress of time in rich detail.
He holds an eye and sense for seeing the beauty brought forth by abandoned things, the remnants of the Showa Era. Using this observational eye and incomparable level of focus that only Maehara possesses, astounding wooden sculptures are born from a single block of wood.
